Krugerrand Definition:

A South African gold piece in the shape and style of a coin but not intended to be used as currency. It contains one ounce of pure gold and was at one time looked upon in the UK as one of the best inflation-proof investment. The UK market in krugerrand was crippled by the British government in 1975, when it was decided that no more krugerrand could be imported into the country except under license and even then only for re-export. Restrictions have since been lifted and any number can now be imported.
